The March Slump

March might just be my least favorite month of the year. February makes March seem so much longer, there isn't anything to look forward to, and the weather teases spring but chooses winter nine times out of 10. I find myself really doubting myself around March, and honestly, that's why there was no post last week--I'm just not feeling creative or motivated.

But I've been working hard over the past few days to get out of my slump, and although I am not 100 percent better, I have a couple of tips to help jump start some inspiration. Or at least give you something to do until March is over. Twist them however you want to, but I hope you take advantage of at least one tip on here.

1. Treat yo'self
Whether you get yourself something big or small, get it. You deserve something for yourself sometimes. I promise. It doesn't have to cost a lot. It can be a fancy coffee or something. But get it and enjoy it.

2. Spend an extra couple of minutes on skincare.
Even if you only have face wash, really spend some time massaging your face with it. Allow yourself  couple of extra minutes in the shower to rinse your body or to just stand there--who cares. This is for you. It's what you need. But really taking care of something as simple as your skin is going to make you feel like a million bucks, and it's going to make you feel accomplished, too.

3. Read a couple of pages of something.
You don't have to commit. You can pick up an old magazine and read a column or you can find a book on your bookshelf and read for however long you want to. The time is there if you want it to be. Take back some time for yourself.

(Are you starting to see a theme here?)

4. Tidy an area.
Not everyone likes cleaning, but an organized space can really change perspective or make it easier to breathe. Pick one spot and clean it up, be it a desk, a room, a car--make it a little better. It shouldn't take too much effort, and afterwards you should feel at least a little accomplished.

5. Take your creative outlet and just mess around.
Give yourself a fun little project and don't let yourself take it seriously. Take some silly pictures. Doodle. Make something in Photoshop. Do whatever you want, but have fun with it. Remind yourself that this should all be fun. And allow yourself to have it.

One or all of these steps should bring yourself back to you. You are the most important part of your life and you deserve to be taken care of and spoiled. Do it for you. If nothing else, I hope this post encourages you to look into what you need. After all, everyone is different and we all need different things. Take that away with you.

Let me know what you do when you're not feeling like your best self. I'd love to hear it!
