Winter Pamper Routine

As the nights get longer and the days get colder, self care becomes more and more important. With less sun, it's good to make time for yourself and to have some pamper nights for yourself. I recommend at least one or two nights a week where you truly take the time to work on your mental health and to give yourself the love and care you deserve.

"Poets are always taking the weather so personally. They're always sticking their emotions in things that have no emotions," J.D. Salinger

Unfortunately, although I am no poet, I am one of those people who really allows the weather to affect my mood. By no means would I say I have SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), but during the winter months, my mood plummets. I become more introspective; often I feel cooped up and lonely; my mind finds it difficult to look forward to better, sunnier days. I try not to allow these feelings--which can sometimes be so intense that all I really want to do is sleep--to get to me too badly; rather, I try to take care of myself better than I usually do. I try to eat better and I try to focus on myself and my mind at least once a week.

I've mentioned before some ways to keep your mood up during the winter months and in it I mention a pamper night. My pamper nights are pretty low-key and fairly inexpensive. Anything that you have on-hand will do, but for the sake of this post, I'm going to walk you through what I like to do for myself on these nights.

My pamper nights begin with a bath. I'm not one of those people who takes a bath during the day (although I've been told by my friend Vince that daytime baths are life changing). I just can't do it. I like the dim light during a bath. I'm not sure why; I simply find candlelight comforting. So first thing's first: I light some candles. Tealight, fragrance free candles around the tub and bathroom for light and whichever scented candle I fancy for scent. On this night, I burned my Bath and Body Works candle in the scent "Winter." It's one of my absolute favorites. Then, I choose whatever I want in my bath. Tonight's bath was filled with my Lush reusable bubble bar Santasaurus and my Lush bath bomb Shoot for the Stars. Both have sweeter scents and just called out to me.
Once my bath was ready for me I grabbed a book I've been reading for way too long, brought my laptop into the bathroom to play through some of my YouTube subscriptions, and got all nice and cozy.
Sometimes I wash my face before my bath, but tonight I decided to use my Pixi Nourishing Cleansing Balm for a little extra moisture. It melts away the makeup and leaves your skin feeling moisturized and soft. After washing my face, I soaked for a while and just let myself do nothing. My cats even left me alone!
All finished with the bath, I move on to skincare. I grabbed my eye cream, my Tarte Maracuja oil, and my cocoa butter (nothing beats it, I swear) and really softened my skin up before putting on a comfy t-shirt and my sweatpants and crawling into bed with my cat and some more YouTube videos.
It's a pretty simple night, but it's the care I needed. Sometimes I apply a face mask before I moisturize. Do what you're feeling.

New Year's Resolutions

If you want me to be honest with you, I'm not really one for New Year's resolutions. I love the idea behind them, but I don't like that they've become kind of a big, unobtainable goal that people set for themselves. But after everything 2016 put us through, I want to revisit the idea of a New Year's resolution, but in a different sense. This year, I want to set three goals for myself that have to do with personal mindset. Hopefully they'll urge me to do the things I need to do, the things the average New Year's resolutions tend to be. Hold me to them, will you?

1. Focus on self care.
I'll admit, I've been working on this for some time now, but there's always room for improvement in this category. I've been a college graduate for about six months now, so I've had my time to be lazy and aimless. Now I want to focus more on making time for myself even when I have less time. To do so, I want to: prepare more meals at home, stick to a schedule, and save more of my money so that I'm not so worried about bills. I'm thinking $50 a week and then after a few months of that, $100 a week into savings from each paycheck.

2. Become introspective again.
When I first decided to better myself, I spent a lot of time being introspective. I've strayed away from that since beginning (and graduating) college, I'd like to go back to reading more, I'd like to travel more, and I'd like to write more (hopefully that means blogging more!).

3. Find a fulfilling career.
This is a big one and I do think it's one of the biggest decisions someone can make in their adult life. I'd like to have this one checked off by the end of 2017, but if I don't, I won't kick myself. Good things come to those who wait, right? We'll leave this one open-ended and see what happens.

Let me know some New Year's resolutions you guys have. I hope they aren't too close-ended and I hope they lead you to where you need to be.
